With the recent ferry dock troubles, we thought you might like to see one of the old docks, probably in the 1930s. The ferry "Guemes" pulls away from the Guemes Island dock. You can see the pilings and the hinges on the loading apron. The Guemes served the island from 1917 to 1959, when the Almar replaced it.

Add photos one at a time, in the order you want them. The first becomes [image1], the second [image2], and so on, typed anywhere in the article text above.
Alerts emailed by the county post automatically. A newer email replaces the banner, a "service resumed" email clears it, and each one expires on its own (after 12 hours unless changed).

Guemes Island sits within the traditional territory of the Samish Indian Nation, whose village sxwalímet once stood near where the ferry terminal is today.
From 2003 on, LineTime.org carried the island's news, message board, and directory, named for the ferry-line conversations it grew out of. This site continues that spirit: informal and useful. See Island Organizations for the Historical Society and other island groups.
In memory
With thanks to LineTime and the islanders who kept it running for so many years.
